MDMC Rapid Response to Floods in Tabanan, Bali: Team Deployed to Conduct Assessment and Provide Humanitarian Support

Tabanan, Bali (September 11, 2025) – MDMC’s Tabanan team moved quickly to respond to floods that hit several areas in Tabanan District, Bali, on Wednesday (10/9).

Heavy high-intensity rain that lasted for a considerable amount of time caused flooding in a number of residential areas, damaging residents’ homes and forcing hundreds of people to evacuate. Based on the team’s assessment in the field, flooding occurred in several locations, including the Panorama Housing Complex in Banjar Anyar Village, the Kembang Pajar Banjar Sema Housing Complex, the Batu Sangyang Housing Complex in Gubug Village, and Banjar Griya Multi Jadi. At least 72 families (369 people) were affected, some of whom were forced to evacuate to relatives’ homes, schools, or community halls.

Since day one, the MDMC Tabanan district team and Lazismu immediately went to the location to conduct an initial assessment, set up a coordination post, and mobilize volunteers to clean up the areas affected by the flood. MDMC also noted a number of urgent needs of the survivors, including cleaning equipment, ready-to-eat food, blankets, folding mattresses, children’s supplies, and safety kits for volunteers.

As a follow-up activity, MDMC together with Muhammadiyah volunteers planned food distribution in four affected areas, distribution of usable clothing, and preparation of public kitchens in collaboration with PDM Kota. Lazismu also opened a space for community solidarity to raise funds and logistical donations. MDMC emphasizes that this rapid response is a clear demonstration of Muhammadiyah’s commitment to be present in the community during disasters, not only during the emergency response phase but also through the post-disaster recovery phase.
